Presidential Address

Hello Ann Arbor Jaycees,

January has been a busy month. Your Board of Directors has been extremely busy developing the chapter survey, laying out the chapter plan and planning great projects for you to attend. The GMM was efficient and the project promotions are becoming fun. The Board of Directors attended the Local Officers Training School and the Ann Arbor Board Training where they received resources, materials and information to make our chapter successful this year.

The Ethnic Dinner had a huge turnout, if you missed it, you should plan to attend the next one! The Yearender celebrated the accomplishments of our members for 2007, and the book
club started up again.

So what do we need to accomplish next? It is time for everyone to take an active role in the chapter – attend a project, work on a committee, step up and chair a project, have fun, and meet new people. Committees for some of our bigger projects are forming, so now is the time to find what interests you and become a part of it.

At Local Officer Training School, Teri Marshall, past Ann Arbor Jaycee President and Michigan Jaycees Membership Vice President talked about the 25 Rejection Plan. Members are often intimidated by membership recruitment, but her theory is easy. Go out and ask your friends, coworkers, family, service workers (hair dresser, mechanic, etc.) to be a part of the Ann Arbor Jaycees. Aim for getting 25 rejections. Along the way, you are bound to get a couple of YESes as well! If every member does this during 2008, we will grow our chapter for the first time in a several years. This will give us more members to plan events, network with and make a bigger impact in our community.

At the Ann Arbor Board of Directors training, we reviewed the importance of communication between the Board and the members. In the next week or so, you should be receiving a call from your assigned Director. Take the time to talk to them, to call them back and to tell them what you want from YOUR chapter! If you are not receiving a call, I want to know, because every member is important to this chapter.

I want to personally invite every general member out to the next GMM. We want to see you. It promises to be a FUN time, both at the meeting and at the afterglow!

We are Tee’d Up for Success!

President Scott
